Project - Roblox Zombie Survival
About
Roblox Zombie Survival is a wave-based zombie survival game I made on Roblox, with help of a few others. It was supposed to be a joke game that I never intended on working further, but here we are.
This game is a recreation inspired by the Garry's Mod Zombie Survival gamemode. So no, this is not an original idea. The idea is simple, but its gameplay can be complex. Basically as a human, you're supposed to survive 6 waves (depends on the map). And zombies have to kill every human.
When the game hasn't started yet, humans can get their starter arsenal from the worth menu with a currency called "Worth". After that they can buy more items from the Sigil Shop and Points Shop with points. Points are received for damaging zombies, repairing cades, healing others and more.
Sigils are a way of teleportation between usually 3 places. Humans are supposed to protect these as it's the only way to escape after the final wave and zombies can corrupt them, making them stronger.
How do you protect these sigils? Cading. In the worth menu and points shop, there is a tool called "Carpenter's Hammer". It allows you to nail down props that are scattered in the map. A prop can have a max of 4 nails attached to them, increasing its hp for each nail.
Zombies have a whole load of classes that can be played as, categorized under destructive, damage and support. There's also boss classes, and zombies that evolve on certain waves, to adept to the increasing damage that comes from humans.
The Development
Before developing it, I first researched if there was another zs game on Roblox, I couldn't find one. After a few months of development apparently they suddenly showed up.
What I never liked of any of them, is that they kept using source assets. The maps, models, basically almost everything except the Roblox characters. It comes off to me as lazy, sorry. My game tries to keep the Roblox-style, the only source assets used are for the sounds.
It was first developed late 2023, where I was still building the viewmodel and item framework.
The game then underwent a massive rewrite somewhere in 2024, and is also the time I've decided to use roblox-ts for this game. I believe roblox-ts really has helped me long-term into this project. Also because I think the type-checker is just better than Roblox's current one.
Even though almost no one played it, I kept updating the game as its original idea never disappeared, it was supposed to be played with my friends. While this might have maybe caused me to lose motivation over some times and some burn-outs, I pushed through.
